Just a Few Seams

I always seem to have great intentions with the amount of personal sewing I'm going to get done. I sewed literally 3" of seams on my personal project. I also seamed a backing for a client's quilt. Both are pictured here, waiting on the iron to heat up.

I think I have my fabrics selected for the current Meadow Mist mystery quilt. The print is the backing and the rest are A - E plus background, top to bottom. I'm waiting for the cutting instructions tomorrow to make sure I have enough of the darker green. I'm 1/8" yard short of the requirements, but I usually have a lot left.

Besides that, I've quilted several quilts, but not as many as I'd planned. I'm still trying to find my groove with running two machines at once.

I quilted Linda's quilt with Modern Drift. It took me two days. I thought it came out nicely, but I'm not sure if she was pleased with the final product or not. 🤔

Thursday night our power went off and was off all night. None of us slept well, but our backup battery did keep our food in the fridge and freezer at a safe temperature for the eight hours + that it was out. I took this weird picture of our lights reflecting on the ceiling by the light of the cell phones.

Friday I had a lot of quilters come by for drop off and pick ups. My husband took off work Thursday and Friday to work on the house repairs. The temperature was really pleasant all weekend, so he got quite a bit done. It's still pretty discouraging though.

My neighbor gave us a giant (like 20" long) zucchini and I shredded it and froze it. I got seven cups of shreds. You might notice the abnormally long (also around 18") and yellow cucumbers in the background. She gave us those for the chickens.

I was back at work Monday. I started quilting Teah's sister's quilt with Boho Boxes. This one also took two days.

I quilted Ann's quilt with Star Spangled. I need to put the binding on the front for her.

I totally forgot that my daughter was coming down Monday evening. She had an appointment in town Tuesday and left Tuesday afternoon. My son was at school volunteering both Monday afternoon at an elementary and all day yesterday at the high school.

This is Pat's quilt with a custom mash-up of edge-to-edge designs.

I also started Ann's next quilt, quilted with Victory.

So what have I been doing over the last week? Mostly hanging out with my son, who started school today. He's decided to drive rather than take the bus this year. As a result, we are purchasing new tires for his car.

With the cooler temperatures over the weekend I got the upper gardens weeded. I also weeded the vegetable garden and ripped out the dead peas. I discovered that my tomato plants are inundated with aphids and tried to treat for those. We got heavy rain, which I'm sure washed off the treatment, and I haven't had time to go back out and check. I had big guild last night and have small guild Friday night.

I had to be up early and I'm tired, so I'll write about guild next week.

  1. I kind of miss having a neighbor sharing their abundance of zucchini with us. That abundance of shredded zucchini in the freezer is no longer available to me. But my DIL did just share a butter squash with me. I'm looking forward to making something with it. Glad your power outage wasn't any longer. They are no fun. And glad you were able to enjoy some extra time with your son.
