I thought I'd have most of Saturday and Sunday available as well. I was going to spend one day working on the dress pattern and one day quilting Jimothy and working on more Bootifall blocks. Well. We were helping my friend move some shelving Saturday morning. That took two and a half hours. I had to go to the bank and we had to drop off the trailer at my husband's boss's house once we were done with the moving. We went and got lunch because by then it was after noon and we were starving. I texted my son and we ended up picking up him and two of his friends and taking them to the food bank book sale. But we had to wait 45 minutes before they were ready to be picked up. That wasn't enough time to drive home, so we went to the grocery store to buy dessert. I saw Rod Stewart there. Not really, but there's this guy in town that I always see (like over at least the last 10 years) at various grocery stores and he totally looks like a really tall, blue collar Rod Stewart from the 1980s. It always makes my day!
The guests took forever at the book sale. We still had to drive them back across town and then get groceries, so by the time we got home it was time to make dinner. No sewing room time. Sunday I spent three hours going through all this year's insurance EOBs, medical bills, and our FSA account, trying to match up everything. There were quite a few large bills that hadn't gotten routed through the FSA, so I had to scan those in and go through the uploading process. Of course the website form kept crashing. By the time I finished that, I only had a couple hours left before dinner.
I spent some time trying to determine which size bodice to make. I'm still not sure. Their size calculator gives me two very different sizes based on only a .5" difference in my upper bust. I traced off one. I think I'm going to have to make one of each size and see what works the best. I hate that because fabric isn't cheap and it's knit and it will be somewhat wasteful since I know neither version is likely to be wearable. A reader suggested buying knit sheets. I think I might go to Walmart and buy some (our thrift stores never have things like that). I may have to make a skirt as well so that the weight of it pulls the bodice into the correct position. The wedding is November 14, so I am fast running out of time.
Meanwhile, I've been watching Poldark in the evenings and working on binding. I finished my Range quilt!
Over in the longarm quilting world, the quilts are still coming along, though slower than I'd like. I quilted Ginger Snap on Trish's quilt.
And Star Struck on her other quilt. You can't really see it, but some of the blocks have embroidered words pertaining to our freedoms. Get out and vote!
I continued working on Teah's quilt. I was so happy to make it to the bottom. The pattern she picked was Matchless Orange Peel. It was much more difficult to execute than I hoped. My computer even had a massive glitch and did this:
You can see that one circle is no longer a circle and the intersections were not aligned properly. I had to grab my backup file in order to continue. I spent so much time with the seam ripper and working with alignment in order to get this to turn out well. Despite the heartbreak and frustration and low ROI for me, I was pleased with the final product.
This week I quilted Fall Foliage on Ann L.'s quilt. My machine was not happy and I had a lot of unexplained thread breaks. The quilt is quite large, so it ended up taking me two days. Side note: the new hook arrived Monday, so hopefully we can get that switched out soon and maybe it will help with some of the strange issues I've been having. Obviously not the computer glitch, but some of the mechanical issues.
I quilted Small Rose on another of Ann's quilts. This one, thankfully, was a perfect stitch out.
I have four more of Ann's quilts to complete this week and I will attach binding to the fronts of all six.
Yesterday afternoon I was able to attend a special event, Larks, Loons, and Lorikeets at the Lilly: An Ornithology Pop-Up Exhibition at the Lilly Library with my son and husband. We were able to see some original Audubon drawings and other rare bird books in from their collection. The first two pictures are from the Double Elephant Folio edition of Audubon's Birds of America.
There were some miniature books.
And this one was in Danish, I think.
We had to get my son back to his dorm to study before class or else I would have liked to explore the library a bit more.
In other bird news, we've been pleasantly surprised that Henry has made his way into the garden most days over the past week. Monday I saw all five in a row from my bedroom window. The Barred Rocks kind of blend into each other, but you can see Henry easily--he's the white one. Nugget is the big chunk on the right. Smoky is in the middle.
Other than that, my kids will be home this weekend. Hopefully I can get going on the dress bodice fitting too. Oh, and the OMG Finish Link Up will be available starting Sunday. I'm still looking for someone to take over as host for 2027.
